Youth Programs and Outreach

Youth Programs Overview

FOR YOUTH & FAMILIES

At the Louisiana Center for the Blind, we believe that it’s never too early to start building the skills and confidence that lead to independence, academic excellence, employment, and fun. Our Youth and Family Programs offer opportunities for children, teens, and families to connect, learn, and grow together. Whether through early support for families of young children, hands-on learning experiences for elementary and middle schoolers, or residential training for high school students, our programs nurture skills and a can-do blindness mindset.

Our Programs:

  • Infant and Toddler Outreach

    • Family-centered guidance, resources, and activities that encourage early skill development and lay the foundation for a positive approach to blindness.

  • BELL Academy (Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning)

    • Interactive summer programs for elementary and middle school students that strengthen Braille literacy while weaving in technology, cane travel, independent living, and mentorship in a fun, engaging way.

  • Summer EDGE (Exploration, Determination, Growth, Empowerment)

    • A three-week residential program for high school students that focuses on independence, career exploration, and confidence-building in a supportive community of peers and mentors.

Each program reflects our commitment to high expectations, meaningful experiences, and the belief that blind children and teens can live the lives they want.
