Who We Are
Since our founding in 1985, we’ve been driven by one mission— to change what it means to be blind. At the Louisiana Center for the Blind, we believe that all blind people can learn, lead, and live with purpose and dignity.
We are committed to empowering blind and low vision individuals by providing the skills, mentorship, and perspective that are helpful in creating a thriving future.
Whether you're adjusting to blindness, returning to the workforce, pursuing higher education, or embarking on a new adventure, our training programs offer students opportunities to gain the tools they need to live the lives they want.

The Louisiana Center for the Blind is a training center and community of blind and low vision people, proudly affiliated with the National Federation of the Blind. We believe blind people can do anything. Every day, we encourage and challenge each student—and they come to understand their potential as they build the skills and confidence to live the life they want. Because when you believe in yourself and experience a thriving community of positive blind people, nothing can hold you back from pursuing your dreams
Our Training Approach
Our programs provide training and support to blind people of all ages and life stages!
Every program that we offer reflects the following key elements:
Nonvisual Skills that Build Confidence: Our programs teach nonvisual skills that foster independence. Students wear learning shades during training hours to aid in developing alternative methods for learning, problem-solving, and confidence-building. This approach equips our students with the blindness skills that facilitate long-term inclusion and success.
Promoting an Empowering Blindness Message: We believe in blind people, and we create learning environments and activities that reflect this core value. We lead with high expectations, facilitate access to blind role models, give students tools to navigate blindness misconceptions, and trust in the ability of our students to define their own futures.
A Supportive Community: Our expert instructors bring their lived experience, professional expertise, and nonstop dedication to uplift every student. They collaborate with students to address individual learning needs, outline training objectives, and define the steps necessary to achieve their goals.

Louisiana Center for the Blind
LCB Performance Flexfit cap. This is a black cap with silver block lettering that says “LCB”. The ultimate team cap with highly-evolved technical cloth and maximum ventilation. FABRIC: F3 Performance. Sizes available are SM-MD (6 7/8-7 3/8) and L-XL (7 3/8-8).
For those of you that weren't at convention or couldn't make it to our table before we sold out, we now have the LCB Blankets!
All blankets are royal blue. They are 9.3-ounce, 50/50 cotton/poly pill-resistant air jet yarn. They have dryBlend® moisture-wicking properties, mitered V corners, double-needle stitching; and, they are fully hemmed. The dimensions are 50" x 60".
They are embroidered with a Louisiana state outline. A Fleur-de-lis is placed in the northern region of the state to represent LCB and the letters "LCB" are written across the bottom of the state.
All proceeds go to our YOUTH programs (e.g., Buddy, STEP, Saturday Club, etc.).
